The world changes and countries reassess their position in the world. War is inevitable because self interest in all that matters. Many European and Asian countries are gearing up for war and well, the USA has been in war time mode spending massive amounts of money every year on military. So much for the spend spend spend to "keep us SaFe" theory.
You are very likely to suffer in some way as well. As much as people can try to buffer the effects of war, it always hits someone somewhere.
USA was at war in Iraq and Afghanistan and how much did the people here feel it? Oh, but America does suffer from its wars. National Debt is one kind. It's a delayed effect. Look at the stupid debt limit fights. People who suffer trauma from the battlefield have to reintegrate and interact with people which causes suffering to people in the immediate vicinity. Familiar triggers can set that person off. Government having to spend more to take care of veterans. Money gets diverted from other programs to deal with war which could result in increased taxes. Americans have suffered from war, but much of it was ignored and delayed.
Suffering is a part of life. Maybe more so than others. You live on borrowed time and power. One day, your country will have to draft you. Luckily for you or not, there are many positions in military service, AI and unmanned robotics to distance you from the front lines of battle. For better or worse, technology has made war efficient, localized, widespread, inhuman, more brutal and less likely to take place between bigger nations directly.
Many countries governments don't feel like they can give up historical lands.
- I mean look at Israel getting back its historical lands and the powder keg in the Middle East that created.
- Armenia's fighting with Azerbaijan over some insignificant historical lands. Armenia should just give it up and trade lands with Azerbaijan.
- China and and the Russian Federation have their own dispute over land which is part of the reason why they have not sought a full alliance. Some day, they will have to fight over it to settle that issue. China's vulnerable to the USA right now with their current geography, so they feel they have to change it in order to be a great power with longevity.
- China wants Taiwan in order to settle the Chinese Civil War and make land grabs to fortify its defenses.
- North Korea's building nukes in order to settle its unification dispute with South Korea. Historical bs. Should the USA have intervened in that war? Probably not. Vietnam's not at war with itself right now or building nukes. The dispute was settled.
- Russia desires land that will stop Western Europeans and America from invading their lands which is pretty much the top half of Europe which is the best way to stage infantry invasions. I doubt that infantry invasions will matter as much with more advanced robotics, mass manufacture of robots, automated ships and planes.
Of course there are more conflicts in the world, but these ones are what I've been hearing about and remember. Land is what war is about. With more land brings more exploitable resources and buffer from foreign armies.
If you are reading this, most likely your country is preparing for a war. Money can help, but, let's be honest, connections to government will help more if you'd like to claim you have bone spurs. 😉
Prepare yourself mentally for what's to come.
