I've been working on a 2D space based survivor game using the Godot engine. It's looking really good so far.
Epic MegaGames, known as Epic today, published a game in the 90s called Tyrian. I still play it, but it's known as OpenTyrian today. It's been almost 30 years now since its release. I've been wanting to make a game like it in the past, but haven't been inspired enough to do it. Well, I learned Godot this summer and decided I was going to make Project Atlas and decided I intend to pay homage to Tyrian by including music and sprites from it into Project Atlas.
It's really cool how I can play the Atlas so far where I can shoot enemies, level up the ship, collect gems etc. The core part of the game is almost to a good point where I could release a build to testers. What I want to do though is make more levels and more weapons. It's also nice to get comments on how it looks so far. ☺️
Godot is the best game engine I've ever used which gives me more motivation to do Project Atlas. It has its rough edges, but it works really really well.
Can't wait to release this into the App Store and Play Store! Maybe even Nintendo Switch?! Nah, that's too much work with needing a dev kit and all, but it is not impossible. Maybe the Mac and Windows app stores... maybe. MOBILE FIRST!
