The one thing people don't tend to like is the case where someone knows more information about you than you know they know. It puts you in a potential vulnerable place where they can use information against you in the future should it become necessary.
The problem with feeling vulnerable about this case is that the government is always going to have higher level of asymmetry with you. Companies constantly collect and store data, a government just needs to compel a company to hand over that information. You don't even know what they collected or gave over.
You aren't going to be able to store information you'd like to remember at all times like the information any official can read on paper. Instead it becomes important to be able to absorb and link information as time goes on. The more linkage, the more chance you can retrieve said data. This is important for investigations whether you are a investigator, witness, etc. For any investigation, you want asymmetry, to be on top of things.
Some people try to sound smart, so you will fall victim to a skewed sense of information asymmetry. This is exactly how schmoozing and scammers work. They bombard you with information to convince you to see them in a positive light and subsequently build trust. Quite a few people are too stupid to filter information they are presented with so will fall easily. Schmoozing and Scamming comes with positive benefit if not economic, but social.
Some people, who just cannot be trusted, will desire information asymmetry as well where they don't want to give you information so that they can manipulate you and your decisions. They want information instead to come to them. When you don't go in their direction or feed them the information they want, they don't know how to respond which causes them to retreat. People like this are rats. I've met my fair share.
When you think about it, think about the financial markets and how people get scammed and schmoozed into investing into utter garbage. The rental market, with respect to opaque fees that you know shouldn't even be there. Uber used to charge a "Safe Rides Fee", you had no clue what "safe rides" even meant. It's all about luring you into a false sense of security with information asymmetry. It's parasitic, manipulative and low quality. The best most trusted markets are always going to be the ones that are transparent and level the playing field of information reach and quality.
I suggest being cautious and on the look out for the types of low quality parasites and manipulators. It's is a full time job especially for investigators. If necessary, it is desirable to gain far more information about manipulators and keeping it for a time when you need it.
