How backwards we would be if we all did wait for a standard to emerge. It'd be akin to asking everyone else to take risks before you decide to. No one would ever bother.
It's 2021 and there is finally an IETF draft spec for timestamp based UUIDs.

It is a good thing I've been using ULIDs which work really well for b-tree based indexes. MySQL 👀
