A skill that requires you to discern what you believe from what others believe, be open minded, critical of all beliefs, playing devils advocate to challenge your beliefs and accept other beliefs for even a fraction of a second and just a skill that many people don't have and will never develop.
It's easier to just follow others blindly and never develop your own skills to think. People who don't critically think are children behaviorally. It's fine to follow things blindly when you are a child. You are just starting in the world and it isn't expect for a child to think from various viewpoints.
At some point in your life, you need to be able to read the news and think about things from the other side and WHY are they even doing what they do. Does it not take energy to oppose, to bomb, to kill, to destroy, to engage? Why do you think another side uses energy to do what they do instead of doing something else with their time and energy? Sometimes, it's because they don't even critically think and are children.
It's one of the issues today with the corporate media, they report news in a way to influence public perception. Every country and company has its own motivations and sometimes that motivation is driven by government. One media company will report news one way, another will report it another way. Better to read both and come up with your own idea of whats going on, but not always.
Fox News is not a company doing things in good faith that's why they were sued by voting machine companies. VOTING MACHINE COMPANIES SUED A "NEWS" ORGANIZATION should tell you enough about the terrible motivations of that media company. That alone should tell you, the articles that come out are gossip articles to be verified or balanced with articles from another side. Ideally, media companies would report things neutrally, but it's apparent that is too boring and there is no money in that. It appears better to play to an audience and inflame them to extract them of their attention and money.
I think it's one of the most important skills a teen needs in order to develop into an adult. Just being able to be skeptical about things, questioning things, taking on different viewpoints and discerning what could be truth from fiction. If something seems like fiction and you don't have a good idea on what the "truth" could be, it's probably better to abstain and use your energy somewhere else. Sometimes, the reality is boring, YOU are boring and you know that's ok.
