There's nothing lost in their so called update where women don't have to message first anymore. The premise was just marketing babble. Women message first was a total shit show. Let's be honest, women on dating apps tend to have no rizz. Some tend to just be there for emotional validation, bored and flaky or just looking for their next bang. It all contributes to a shit atmosphere where learned behaviors propagate.
Bumble has no moat. It attracted an audience that thought it could empower itself with some vapid idea of "Women message first" messaging. In reality, only a minority of women wanted that. Dating apps are not the profit machines that people think they are. They are social networking services therefore inherently expensive to manage. Now granted that dating apps restrict interaction unless people are effectively "matches" aka friends. People match up on Instagram because dating apps don't moderate properly. There are expectations that these "dating" apps do not set at all.
I don't even know why Bumble is a public company. It was never invest-able in the first place. If they had a suite of apps, I'd understand, but one major app with no moat? Really? The founders just wanted to cash out and they did. They don't even manage it anymore because they got bored of it like the people who use the apps get bored of it. There's nothing special about these dating apps. They could disappear today and the human race would still reproduce.
I'm obviously biased since Project Starflash is a dating app, but actually get people (heterosexuals) to meet rather than waste time with all day chit chat and with established rules to make sure the community stays in line.
It's crazy because people are turning 18 all the time, so there's a new potential customer every day. How Match Group and Bumble are f**king that up is beyond me. Stagnant old cucks.
