Added a new special weapon, pretty much has to do with black holes, and one more to go!
Starfang Striker is inspired by Starfox just more wolf than fox. Probably should've called it StarWolf. This play was close though, was close to death as you can see the few times I started playing more conservatively rather than just freely getting hit.
Never thought I'd get this far so quickly. It didn't register to me that I could make something like this in 2 months so far. Godot Engine played a big factor in that. The editor and scripting language are so good. My structure and code obviously plays another factor too. It's generally easy to add things without a total rework of things. Things just get build on top of and unified from time to time. Plugins are open source, so there's code I brought in and modified.
I was planning to learn Godot last year, but procrastinated and see it was a good thing because Godot 4.0 with GDScript 2 came out and I saved myself the pain of porting 😮💨. I was also planning to learn Unreal Engine 5 just to play with 3D and get used to the flow. Clearly that's on the backburner for now. Never stop learning even if you don't get to use it immediately.
I had small apps I wanted to make this year. One casual game I wanted to make which served as a stepping stone to this game, but stopped and instead devved and released an Digital Eyecare app instead. I then wanted to build a motivation app, but lost interest in Ovtober. Posted motivational posters and stuff on Instagram, Threads and Facebook, but didn't get traction. Always has a nagging feeling though to make a space shooter.
A shoot 'em up was always my interest because TYRIAN. It's just too good of a game to not play. Playing it since the 90s man off and on. I usually play up to Episode 3-4 and start over. Epic Games, Epic Megagames during that time, made a great decision to publish it. Sucks that they didn't expand on it further though. I get it business is priority #1, so Unreal Tournament was dropped in favor of Fortnite even. Fun and wackiness is #2.
Atlas Fury is that shoot 'em up fun and wackiness for casual gamers and i hope that many others experience the various ships and enemies in the game as I have. Replayability is key. Maybe a story side channel can be added as an after thought later just like Tyrian. Maybe, but I don't count on it. Level 7 is the hardest yet, but beatable as you can see. 😭🙏👾
Of course it helps a lot to have a friend who plays it and give suggestions while other testers who play more than once and have a positive experience!
